We're not equipped to deal with this...

philhutchinson

A delegate asked how long Rach and I had been together recently. When I told her we got married in 1997 she said she wasn’t even born then, so I threw her out of class 😂

Obviously I only pretend to be offended (😳) as I’ve been getting these kind of comments for years whilst the world around me gets younger! ⏳

That said, I do sometimes reference the difference in our generations, especially when talking about the speed with which technology has “evolved” in the past 40 years. 💻

I even took my old 1987 WH Smith encyclopaedia into class the other day to illustrate the point - just take a look at the entry for “Computer” to give you an indicator of how quickly the world has changed, and don’t even bother looking up “Internet” as it didn’t exist!! 📖

And now, how many of you can see or reach your mobile device whislt reading this? How many of us keep the things by our side whether at home or work? How many of us look at their mobile first and last thing at night, every night? The volume of neural energy we are expending on processing information has never been higher as so many of us are constantly switched-on and accessing data or media of one sort or another for most of our waking hours. 📱

It’s no wonder our stress-effect triggers often misfire but the more we drain our batteries, the more the computer (your brain!) will malfunction and make false interpretations of threat. This can lead to anxiety, depression and life threatening physical conditions if left unchecked. 💔

I think we all (me included) need to chill out, switch off and reconnect with those activities which charge our batteries, not drain them! 🔋

So here’s to chilling out people! Now, switch off this crappy application and go get some fresh air!! ❤️
